Faculty Development Internship

Overview

The Faculty Development Program at CSHS, a nationally accredited institution, recognizes and supports faculty in their role as educators. We strive to provide faculty educators with the knowledge and skills to best teach students in the classroom, in the field, and in clinical settings. This program certificate provides both seasoned and novice educators with the tools to plan, develop, and implement standards-based curricula and instruction that can help students learn and achieve their highest potential. Furthermore, faculty will learn about different teaching methodologies and various instructional strategies to enhance interdisciplinary learning experiences in a variety of professional and educational settings.

Certificate of Participation:
Upon successful completion of the following two courses, participants will be awarded certificate of completion titled “Faculty Development Certificate”.

  1. FD 100: Curriculum Theory and Development (40 Clock hours)
  2. FD 101: Teaching Strategies (40 Clock hours)

Curriculum Theory and Development (FD 100)
40 Clock hours
This 4-week course is designed to assist students in developing those skills essential for curriculum development, restructuring, planning, and implementation a. Three essential processes, curriculum development, assessment, and instruction will be considered with respect to relevant theory, research, and practice. This course is also designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to fulfill leadership positions as perceptive and inquiring educators.

Course Objectives

  • Students will explore the writings of curriculum scholars and theorists in order to examine philosophical, historical, sociological, psychological, and political curriculum perspectives.
  • Students will explore curriculum development as a field of study and will participate in curriculum inquiry through professional discourse.
  • Students will refine their knowledge and analytical understanding of the relationship among the four main components of instruction – curriculum, teacher, students, and context.
  • Students’ thinking, teaching and decision-making regarding curriculum will be shaped by the concepts of the teacher as a curriculum doer and the principal/administrator as a curriculum leader.
  • Students will adopt a curriculum perspective and will apply an array of corresponding curriculum tools and processes when developing a project consistent with their professional aspirations.

Teaching Strategies (FD 102)
40 Clock hours
This 4-week experience is designed to create a framework for your understanding of instructional strategies and their effective application in the classroom. The course is also focusing in building the knowledge in learning theories and evidence-based teaching. Participants will learn to apply effective strategies that stimulate critical thinking and creativity, and promote cooperative learning. Applications of strategies will be illustrated through hands-on activities.

Course Objectives

  • Students will identify and apply sound instructional design principles to course development
  • Students will identify the various strategies in active learning
  • Students will learn the principles of inquiry-based learning and their application in in the classroom
  • Students will identify the principles of self-directed learning and their applications in the classroom
  • Students will Apply a needs assessment to identify which clinical performance gaps can be best addressed using healthcare simulation Students will identify the various methods and models for technology enhanced instruction delivery
  • Students will identify different Learning Management Systems (LMS) their use and application in teaching
  • Students will develop strategies and techniques related to just in time teaching and teaching at the bedside (Healthcare students only)
